The water system
The water system of the monastery was used for the maintenance
of fresh water and waste water until the middle of the 20th century.
Moreover, the water was one of the essential designing elements
of the monastic gardens.
Today, most of the damage of the monastic
buildings and gardens are due to dysfunctions and at least partial
destruction of the water system. The recently repainted façade
of the church, for example, already shows damages caused by moisture
and its Baroque interior as well as the gardens interior are still
in great danger.
A long lasting success of further restorations
of the building fabric highly depends on the elimination of the
causes. Thus, a first thorough investigation of the historical
water system is a prerequisite for its following restoration.
A
first step will be the geological investigation of the building
ground, ground water regime and the hydraulic conditions.
Furthermore,
a research of the historical functionality and aesthetics of
the water system is another basic work for its reconstruction
as well as revitalization of the architectonical elements within
the monastic gardens.
All results of the investigations will be
used to define the first measures and to carry out the most urgent
restorations. |
