Restoration of the Monastery
The severe
ruin of partial elements of the monastery requires a systematic
restoration of these parts. Because of the financial situation, only
small but important steps could be taken such as the restoration
of the valuable pews which was financially supported by the German „Deutschen
Bundesstiftung Umwelt“.
In accordance to the complexity
of the monastic construction, investigations and studies of
different fields has to be carried out. They are the basis for a
following and successful restoration. All projects and cooperations
are managed by the Gardens Committee.
For example, the universities
of Brno (Czech Republic) and Berlin (Germany) documented the gardens
and their interior. In contrast, the actual cooperation of the
universities of Prague (Czech Republic) and Freiberg (Germany) is
concentrated upon the functionality of the monastic water system
and, hopefully, the subsequent investigation of the building fabric.
In
addition, Czech and German pupils from Annaberg or Litvinov, respectively,
perform very valuable work, every spade of earth turned helps to
arrest the process of decline. Their work include removal of overgrown
trees as well as grass growing in pavilions and stairs, the fruit
harvest and the cleaning of open water canals.
All cooperation of
Czechs and Germans have one in common: Far away and independently
of the ‚great politics‘ it clearly
shows that the consciousness of the common past can enable us to
work together for one aim, for example, the restoration of the
monastery of Osek. Furthermore, it shows that a mutual understanding
is possibly and worthwhile.
