The Friends of the Osek Monastery
Friends of the Osek Monastery was founded in October 1992, approximately
a year after the refounding of the Cistercian abbey. As a citizens
group, the Friends hope to support the spiritual, cultural and
social work of the monastery and to help with the spiritual and
structural restoration.
The group will also assist the monastery
in becoming the spiritual center of the region and a meeting
place for the neighboring peoples, and in this way, will highlight
the cooperation on Christian principles of the people of a
united Europe. Citizens of Germany, the Czech Republic and other
European countries were the first members of the international
Friends of the Osek Monastery.
In 1996, for organizational reasons,
the foreign members founded an independent German group with
its seat in Neuss. They have greatly supported the monastery
- not only spiritually, but also with operational funding.
The German and the Czech Friends have worked together since
then to maintain the monastery as a national historical monument
and as a center of spiritual and cultural work in northern
Bohemia. |
